The Mfoundi Market

Experience the raw energy of a classic African market at Mfoundi Market (Marché Mfoundi), one of Yaoundé's oldest and busiest open-air hubs, located right in the city center near the Notre-Dame des Victoires Cathedral. If you've never stepped into an African market, this is the perfect introduction: massive, chaotic, colorful, and alive with constant negotiation. Wander through endless stalls bursting with everything from fresh pineapples and smoked fish to cured meats, exotic trinkets, knock-off fashion (sneakers, purses, football jerseys), umbrellas, herbs, spices, and bizarre local specialties.

Watch vendors hustle to sell their crops and goods and navigate the hectic traffic of motorcycles, taxis, and crowds.  This guided walk also includes quick stops at the Yaoundé train station and views of the Mfoundi River.
